DESIGN VS ACOUSTICS
Upon first glance, the unique design of SoundCrewe loudspeakers may be thought to be for artistic purpose. However, each loudspeaker is engineered by scientific acoustic requirements for the purpose of producing the best quality of sound.
THE SIZE
Despite the changes in technology and the trend to design products that are compact, slimmer and lighter, the size of a loudspeaker has a direct relationship with the size of the sound waves it produces, and must be large enough to reproduce the source. If you want a big sound, you need a big speaker.
THE SPHERICAL SHAPE
Our speakers were designed around the propagation of sound waves. It has long been realized that a spherical enclosure is the most sonically transparent shape. It allows the sound waves to grow around the enclosure without being influenced by any reradiating surfaces.

The woofer for the SC-720 design is Seas Excel (E0017-08SW18EX001). This is Seas’ flagship line with the EX having a magnesium cone and a copper phase plug. (It was the copper phase plug that inspired the copper covering. The speaker housing is wood, then the spun copper is applied as a finish.) The tweeters are from the Scan Speak Illuminator line with the GE1 using the D3004-660000 “Air Circ”. These tweeters are highly regarded as one of the industry’s top performers. To reduce the diffraction influencing the tweeter, a new faceplate had to be designed. Each tweeter faceplate has a custom machined copper face attached to a spun surround.
Each wooden enclosure is skinned with spun and hammered copper. The spun pieces are .040” thick and the hammered copper body is .020” thick. The copper is adhered to the enclosure and Brass pins are used to secure the seams.

The woofer for the SC-710 design is the Seas Excel (E0042-08SW18NX001). This is Seas’ flagship line with the NX having a Nextel coated paper cone and a chromed copper phase plug.
The tweeters are from the Scan Speak Illuminator line with the GE2 using the D3004-602010 (this tweeter is the smaller cousin to the “Air Circ”) These tweeters are highly regarded as one of the industry’s top performers.
